Scholarships for Returning Students
2008 - 2009


716 Scholarship  6 Scholarships - $2,000

Awarded to returning students with high academic standing who are majoring in business or journalism.


40 & 8 Volture 327 Scholarships 4 Scholarships - $1,000

Awarded to students enrolled in the RCTC Associate Degree Nursing program who have completed Nursing 1117. Recipients must be residents of Olmsted County or other southeastern Minnesota counties without a -40 & 8 Volture organization.


Oehlke Family Foundation Scholarships   6 Scholarships - $1,000

Awarded to students enrolled in the RCTC Associate Degree Nursing program who have a 3.5 or higher GPA and have financial need.


“You Go Girl” Scholarship 1 Scholarship- $250

This award is for the purchase of course books and is awarded to students enrolled in the RCTC Associate Degree Nursing program who have a 3.0 or higher GPA and are a custodial single parent.


“New Beginnings” Scholarships   1 Scholarship- $250

This award is for the purchase of course books and is awarded to students enrolled in the RCTC Associate Degree Nursing program who have a 3.0 or higher GPA and receive financial aid.


Marge Allen Memorial Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $700

Awarded to a second year student who is an Olmsted County resident with financial need. Preference to students dependent on public assistance and whose educational goals will help them eliminate this need.


Neil Anderson Scholarship   2 Scholarships - $1,000

Awarded to a student entering their second year at RCTC planning to pursue a four-year degree. The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA after the first year at RCTC and have financial need. Any field of study is eligible.


English Department Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $600

To be awarded to a student majoring in English who is either entering the second year of study at RCTC or graduating and pursuing their bachelor degree at another college or university.


Les Fliegel – Rochester Downtown Kiwanis Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

Awarded to an incoming and returning student who exhibits high academic standards, volunteer and community involvement, leadership and financial need.


Hill Memorial Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a returning student majoring in business or elementary education.


Gould Family Scholarship  3 Scholarships - $2,000

Eligible applicants will be custodial single parents, pursuing any major, but with preference to accounting students.


Hoffman Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $2,000

Awarded to a returning student who plans to attend a four-year college or university following completion of coursework at RCTC. Student should be pursuing a major in one of the “hard sciences”, such as math, science, and engineering. Student must qualify for financial aid and possess a minimum 3.0 GPA


Kenneth McGhie Memorial Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $2,000

Awarded to a returning student majoring in Engineering Technology or Engineering.


MN Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship 1 Scholarships - $1,100

Awarded to students whose high school participated in the regional endowment post-secondary education option program. A list of applicable schools is available in the UCR Counseling Department or RCTC Foundation Office - Heintz Center, Room HC109


National Association of Women in Construction Scholarship  2 Scholarships - $1,000

Awarded to a second year female student majoring in transfer or technology civil engineering, mechanical engineering or Building Utilities Maintenance, carpentry, or machine tool trade.


Science Department Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to students planning to major in a science related area with a cumulative 3.3 GPA Level of difficulty of courses taken will be considered.


The Bateman Family Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $2,500

Awarded to a qualified returning student who has demonstrated interest in the Social Sciences and intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Social Science at a four year college or university. The student should possess a 3.5 GPA and be enrolled full time. Student may be eligible a second year based on same criteria. – A new application must be submitted to be reconsidered.


Alice and Harry Tashjian Scholarship   2 Scholarships - $700

One scholarship awarded to a student pursuing studies in engineering field. One scholarship awarded to a female student who postponed attending higher education after high school and has faced challenges in maintaining a traditional education path. 


People’s Cooperative Services Association Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $700

Awarded to an incoming or returning student who, individually or whose family, is a customer of Peoples Cooperative Services. Preference given to student majoring in agriculture or related field and planning to continue at a four-year college or university.


Rochester Commercial Banks Scholarship 2 Scholarships - $1,000

Awarded to a student whose permanent address is Rochester and pursuing studies in finance with a minimum 3.0 GPA 


Olmsted Medical Center Scholarship   2 Scholarships - $500

Any student in good academic standing, studying in a medical related program at RCTC is eligible.


40 & 8 Cabane Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $300

Awarded to a student in Medical Assistant program or 2-year medical field program.


St. Mary’s Hospital Scholarship 2 Scholarships - $750

St. Mary’s Auxiliary Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to students enrolled in Associate Degree Nursing program who have completed Nursing 1117. Recipients must agree to work one year at St. Mary’s Hospital.


Rochester Masonic Lodge Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

Awarded to a returning student with preference given to a non-traditional student in Nursing or Associate in Science Degree program with a family tie to the Masonic Lodge.


Zumbro Valley Medical Society Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $500

Awarded to a student pursuing an LPN or RN nursing degree who is a Minnesota resident.


Rochester International Association/Phyliss Layton Scholarship 2 Scholarships - $500

Awarded to international or refugee students entering second year of studies at RCTC.


RCTC Foundation Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a returning student, any major, with minimum 3.0 GPA Eligibility is based on financial need, academic standing and personal/career goals.


RCTC Foundation Technical Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a returning student pursuing training in technical programs. Eligibility is based on financial need, academic standing, and person/career goals.


Otto Haling Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $700

Applicants must have completed one semester of the Auto Mechanics Program. Award based on financial need, GPA and participation in community or school activities.


Kreutzman-McGannon Scholarship  1 Scholarships - $700

Awarded to a returning sophomore or graduating student transferring to a four-year college studying in the field of science, computers or mathematics. Student must be active in school activities and/or community involvement and possess a minimum 3.2 GPA **100-WORD ESSAY ON “GOALS AFTER GRADUATION” IS REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION**


Aase, Gatti, Munsch Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $500

Awarded to a returning sophomore with GPA between 3.0 and 3.5. Must be a full-time student and have financial need.


Izaak Walton League, Rochester Chapter Scholarship 1 or more Scholarships - $ variable

Awarded to a student with a declared field of study related to conservation or a strong preference for a conservation field. Preference will be given to student who attended high school in Olmsted County, followed by students from SE MN counties and demonstrates financial need. May be awarded subsequent years to the same recipient. ESSAY: College and career objectives, and how the mission of the Izaak Walton League fits with your goals.


Disabled American Veterans Raymond Sibley Memorial Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $250

Awarded to a Human Services Technical program student receiving a diploma and furthering their education in Human Services or social work area. 3.0+ GPA required.


Rick Stelling Memorial Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a student from southeastern Minnesota who has a strong interest in the field of music and has participated/performed as a member of the RCTC music program.


Charles and Marietta (Sonnenberg) Sandberg Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a student majoring in business or journalism. Preference to a student with financial need.


Ruth & Hugh Cocker Scholarship 2 Scholarships - $300

Awarded to a second year student with high academic standing majoring in the Floriculture Garden Center Program.


Lavine Family Scholarship  2 Scholarships - $1,000

Awarded to a returning sophomore student enrolled full-time in the Liberal Arts program. Recipient must carry a 3.3 or better GPA, must be a high school graduate within the last four years and must have participated in school activities at RCTC.


Wells Fargo Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $1,500

The scholarship will be awarded to a Rochester student who is pursuing an education in the field of business.


Stewart, Webster, Hummer Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $750

Awarded to a full-time student who completed their freshman year with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Student must be majoring in business, accounting, computer science, health field, or science.


Coty/Vakos Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $750

Awarded to a full-time student majoring in business and/or marketing. Student must be considered non-traditional, working full or part-time while attending college, 3.0 or better GPA.


Edland, Edland, Olson Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $600

Student should be pursuing a four-year degree, reside in southeast Minnesota, 3.0 GPA required, and be involved in extra curricular activities.


Executive Women International – Rochester Chapter Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $500

Awarded to persons coping with financial needs, social or physical disadvantages, displaced homemakers, heads of household with small children, and at-risk adults.


Sue and David Dripps Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,500

Awarded to a student successfully majoring in graphic arts. Preference to student with financial need.


Suzanne Dinusson Retail Merchandising Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

The scholarship will be awarded to a returning student who is majoring in the field of retail merchandising. The applicant should have a strong interest in the retail field and be involved in community related activities and volunteer experiences.


Lloyd Welty Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

Awarded to a successful student in Retail Merchandising.


Hoffman Technical Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $1,500

Awarded to a second year student who is pursuing a two-year degree majoring in a technical or trade field. Student should possess passing grades and qualify for financial assistance from RCTC.


UCR Asian Student Association Scholarship  2 Scholarship - $600

The Asian Student Organization Scholarship will be awarded to two current RCTC Asian students who are carrying a minimum of nine credits and have a minimum 2.5 GPA.


John and Rita Hunt Scholarship 2 Scholarships - $1,500

Awarded to a second year student pursuing any major, demonstrating financial need, and in good academic standing with RCTC.  


Lyman and Jean Green Memorial Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to non-traditional student who is working and/or rearing a family while attending RCTC. Any area of study or major is eligible.


American Institute of Banking Scholarship 2 Scholarships - $1,000

Awarded to a student with sophomore statue (30 credits) majoring in business, finance, or accounting and possess a minimum 3.0 GPA.


Clarence Crow Memorial Scholarship 3 Scholarships - $1,500

Awarded to a deserving student with financial need in the technical programs pursuing degrees or certificates in machine tool trades, carpentry, auto mechanics, mechanical drafting, civil engineering, Building Utilities Maintenance, or boiler operations. Rochester Public Utilities employees and their children are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.


Mike Klampe Memorial Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $2,000

Student will demonstrate character and leadership, promoting outreach, learn about other cultures, understand ethnic differences and celebrate diversity among all people. **ESSAY REQUIRED** Call Foundation Office for topic – 281-7770 or jean.jech@roch.edu.


George Gibbs Memorial Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

Student should be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.0 GPA. **ESSAY ON FREEDOM TO BE INCLUDED WITH APPLICATION FORM.**


American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers Scholarship - 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to an incoming or returning student in the CAD,BUM, or Mechanical Engineering program (not maintenance engineering) with a 3.0 GPA Recipient will be encouraged to attend monthly ASHRAE meetings at no expense to the student.


Holmquist, Nolte, Reed Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $750

Awarded to an incoming or returning student from Stewartville school area majoring in education with plans to coach athletics.


Iris Fried Student Support Services Scholarship 2 Scholarships - $1,000

The recipient must be enrolled in the Student services Support Program at RCTC and in attendance for at least 9 credits fall semester 2007 and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 **ESSAY** “Explaining how Student Support Services has impacted student’s life and plans for the future.”  


Charles Hill Theatre Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $700

The scholarship provides tuition assistance to a second year student in good academic standing who is involved in Theater activities at RCTC.


Charles Hill Music Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $700

The scholarship provides tuition assistance to a second year student in good academic standing who is involved in Music activities at RCTC.


Ruth and Frank Heck Scholarship 2 Scholarships - $700

A student pursuing studies to become a licensed practical nurse will receive this award.


Paul Labinski Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $500

Recipient will be a returning student majoring in math or economics with a demonstrated involvement in volunteer activities. Student should have financial need and be in good academic standing with RCTC.


Jane Toft Memorial Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $750

Awarded to a female student entering her second year who displays academic skill in the field of science.


Wiese Family Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,500

Awarded to a returning student who maintains a 3.0 GPA. The student must intend to pursue a four-year degree at a college or university after completing their studies at RCTC. The student must also demonstrate financial need.


Rochester Business & Professional Women Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a woman majoring in a business related degree who plans to continue and pursue a baccalaureate degree. The student should possess a minimum 3.0 GPA


Zumbro Valley Medical Society Alliance Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $200

Awarded to nursing student with financial need who is a Minnesota resident.


Bob Erickson Part-time Student Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

Awarded to any working adult student attending a Minnesota state college and Universities institution on a part-time basis (1-11 credits) and working full or part-time. Must demonstrate financial need and be in good standing with RCTC.


“E.Z.” Earl Atkinson Memorial Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a student entering the second year of study at RCTC, majoring in the area of business, attending full-time and demonstrating academic achievement with a 3.0 GPA or higher.


Rochester Garden & Flower Club Scholarship  2 Scholarships - $1,000

Student in the horticulture curriculum in good standing academically with RCTC qualify for this scholarship.


Judy and Dave Harris Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a student pursuing studies to become a post-secondary instructor; possible consideration given to student pursuing a major to become a secondary education instructor.


Wade Family Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $750

Awarded to a second year student who is using student loans to finance their education. Recipient will be a business major with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Student should be involved in community or school activities.


Vicki, Kent, Todd Brunner Scholarship   1 Scholarship - $1,500

Awarded to a student, incoming or returning, from Southeastern Minnesota who was involved in high school activities such as athletics, band, choir, theater. Recipient must carry a minimum 12 credits and major in business or computer science, allied health, nursing, or pre-medicine.


Renee and Bill Brunner Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,500

Awarded to a student, incoming or returning, from Southeastern Minnesota who was involved in high school activities such as athletics, band, choir, and/or theater. Recipient must carry a minimum of 12 credits and major in business or computer related field.


Rochester Civil War Roundtable Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $250

Awarded to an outstanding history student who plans to transfer to a four year college or university and plans to major in history.


George J. Calvert Memorial Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

Recipient will be a student in good standing at RCTC who intends to use their carpentry skill in the home building trades.


Kenneth Rohde Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

The award is for an incoming or returning student active in the RCTC band and who has financial need. Students may be attending RCTC full or part-time. The scholarship may be renewable if student continues at RCTC and is active in the band.


Walter Swenberg Memorial Scholarship  3 Scholarships - $3,000

Eligible student will be enrolled in the Pre-Mechanical Engineering or the Engineering Technical program. Students must qualify for financial aid. If the recipients’ complete their first year of study and maintain above average academic standing, they will be eligible for a second year of funding: a new application must be submitted to be reconsidered.


Susan Dobbe Memorial Scholarship 1 Scholarships - $500

The award goes to a second year RCTC student majoring in Music Technology who has demonstrated commitment to the program.


Dr. Harold and Loraine T. Perry Scholarship  1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a returning student pursuing a degree in the field of medicine or health careers, who can demonstrate financial need and is in good academic standing at RCTC.


Matt Smith Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

Award available for a physically disabled student who has the ability, drive, and desire to attend college but has physical challenges to surmount.


T. Emil and Dorothy Gauthier Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to an exceptional student majoring in a manufacturing technical degree program.


Taher Food Service Scholarship 2 Scholarships - $500

Awarded to a part-time student carrying 6-8 credits in good academic standing.


MLT Group Scholarship 1 Scholarship - $500

Awarded to a student in good academic standing who plans to pursue a digital arts major in the field of graphic arts, music or film. Student must submit example of their work.


Shades of Green Horticulture Scholarship (SOGHS)  1 Scholarship - $500

To be awarded to a returning student committed to the Horticulture program with a 3.0 GPA or higher. The student is required to attend a SOGH meeting.


St. Paul Foundation Nursing Scholarships   2 Scholarships - $750

Awarded to a returning student majoring in nursing and in good academic standing.


John, Adolph, and Pauline Peterson Horticulture Scholarship

1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to Incoming or Returning Students with a minimum GPA of 2.0.  Preference will be given to students coming from families who have worked in horticulture, agriculture, or related fields who are pursuing an A.A. S. degree planning a career in greenhouse management or a horticulture specialty.  Recipient must have completed or commit to providing 10 hours of volunteer service each semester to a worthy organization such as Chester Woods Park, Seasons Hospice, the Salvation Army doing fall clean-up spring planting, etc.


Vern Bushlack Horticulture Scholarship - 1 Scholarship - $1,000

Awarded to a Returning Student enrolled in a Horticulture Technology Careers program at RCTC. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to full-time students who exhibit a strong commitment to the horticulture industry through their employment and/or activities.
