Student Employment - Work Study

fistfull of dollarsStudent Employment (Work Study) Awards are a form of "self-help" aid.  Student employment is a program in which the student obtains a work study position either on- or off-campus.  The student then works to earn their award.  Students are paid every two weeks for hours submitted.  Student employment funds earned do NOT have to be repaid; however, the student must work to earn the award.  If the student does not earn his/her full award amount for the academic year, the remaining award amount is forfeited.

Wage Rate: $8.25/hour. A $.50/hr premium is paid for all hours worked after 7:00 pm and on weekends.

Pay Raises: $ .50/hour after completion of 200 hours. An employment evaluation must be completed by your Student Employment Supervisor.

Timesheets Due: Every other Wednesday, by 12:00 noon

Pay Dates: See Disbursement Dates.

How do I get a Work Study Job?

  1. You must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and receive an award letter including Work Study in order to obtain a position.  Your Award Letter will list "Federal Work Study" or "Minnesota Work Study" if you have been awarded work study funding.  If you have not been awarded work study, please contact the Financial Aid Office for information about the availability of work study funds.

  2. Stop at the Financial Aid Office to receive your job assignment and a payroll packet. You will be asked to meet with the supervisor for your job to setup a work schedule.

  3. When you have met with your supervisor and determined your work schedule, bring the payroll packet to the Financial Aid Office along with two forms of identification such as a Driver's License and Social Security Card.
  4. At the Financial Aid Office, your paperwork will be reviewed.
  5. DO NOT begin working until you have received final authorization from the Financial Aid Office via access to the electronic timeclock.   Unauthorized hours worked will not be paid.
  6. For DETAILED INFORMATION about student employment, see the Student Employment Handbook.
