Each group will be assigned a continent; from within that continent, your group selects a country and an American company that does business there.  Prepare a country-cultural report using PowerPoint or multi-media in which each group member speaks for an equal time about aspects of culture and business that will enable prospective American employees to perform adequately on and off the job while living in, or working with members of that foreign culture.  Your group presentation should last at least 20 minutes, but not more than 60 minutes, or about 10 minutes per group member.

Developing Empathy for Differences

1st

Read the instructions:  Class members come up to the front of the room one by one and give a brief presentation (perhaps 3 minutes) of any way in which they have been perceived as different, and how they felt about this perception.  The difference can be of any kind - relating to characteristics such as ethnicity, race, choice of major, physical appearance, height, weight, hair color, or body piercing.
2nd

After each member of the class (perhaps including the instructor) has presented, class members discuss what they learned form the exercise.
3rd

It is also important to discuss how this exercise can improve relationships on the job.

2nd    Accomplish Learning Objective #9.

 9. Each student should be assigned to work as a team with a small group of students. Each group should be assigned a continent; from within that continent, your group should have selected a country and an American company that does business there.  Your assignment is to prepare a twenty minute country-cultural report using PowerPoint or multi-media in which each group member speaks for an equal time about aspects of culture and business that will enable prospective American employees to perform adequately on and off the job while living in, or working with members of that foreign culture.  So use this time to get organized, and to compare and to mesh your research efforts with those of your team members.
