General Guidelines for Job Interviewers

Use six people, three of whom will be interviewers, and three of whom will be interviewees.

1.  Form small groups to act as an interviewing committee.

2.  Select and use a job advertisement you, or the interviewees have created earlier in the course.

3.  Each committee member should select 1 or 2 different questions to ask of each applicant.

4.  Keep notes about the interviewees.

5.  See that each interviewee has a few minutes to look over the job advertisement.

6.  Invite several interviewees to your table, and interview each applicant.  (Since this is a learning situation, those applicants not yet being interviewed may listen in, but not otherwise participate.)

7.  Use your committee and notes to discuss and determine the best qualified candidate.

8.  Announce the winner of the job position.

Job Interviewees

2.  Visit the table where applicants are being interviewed.

3.  If it is not yet your turn to be interviewed, wait patiently, but listen and observe.

4.  Make notes about the judgments that are probably being made by the interviewers and by the interviewees.

5.  When it is your turn, do your best to respond to the questions asked of you in such a way as to get the job position for yourself.

What did you learn about yourself during the interview?

What did you learn about as the result of listening to other interviewees?

What characteristics did the winning interviewee seem to possess?
