Consider yourself a member of a team about to make a presentation to the President's Council of Economic Advisors.  Briefing time is limited.  Resources can only be used to fund a single initiative.  During your presentation, identify and present materials relevant to the most important policy issues the current administration will face.  Convince the president to refrain from spending monies on less important issues, and to fund only the most important issue.

The Council does not listen to lengthy or disorganized presentations.  You have to be very focused to cover the materials on each issue within the guidelines set forth here for Team Presentation #1.

Get to know one another and choose a team leader(s).

Using The Economics of Public Issues primarily, and the Wall Street Journal, Internet, and library resources:

Create an electronic presentation by your team about each of the issues from Part One: Foundations of Economic Analysis in your supplementary textbook - The Economics of Public Issues.

1. Your team presentation should be 10 minutes in length, and every team member should contribute in the following ways:
- have a speaking part; or provide written input, such as PowerPoint slides, or a handout to the audience;
- offer leadership to the team;
- coordinate the efforts of others via Discussion Group and email;
- assume responsibility for the projector and computer technology;
- facilitate in such a way as to make each team member welcome.
2. Your team presentation should make use of PowerPoint and projection technology in our classrooms.
3. Your 100 point team presentation should contain the following introduction, body, and conclusion elements:

Introduction 10 points (1) One slide that lists the half dozen or so alternative funding topics from Part Seven,
10 points (2) the outline to be followed during the presentation,
10 points (3) the names of each team member and their roles in relation to the outline.
Body 10 points (4) background information and the five most important facts about each issue chosen from The Economics of Public Issues.
10 points (5) pertinent economic principles for analyzing the issue drawn from your Bade/Parkin textbook
10 points (6) relevant diagrams, or other research possibly taken or adapted from the Bade/Parkin texts or Study Guide(s) or from other sources like Internet or the library.
Conclusion 20 points (7) Based upon the facts in (4) above and upon the economic principles in (5) above decide upon a single issue which should be funded, at the expense of all the others.  You should reach a reasoned conclusion based upon the evidence and the analysis you have been able to include in your presentation.
4. In-class team members should provide both a computer disk and a hard copy of the presentation to your instructor before your team begins the presentation during Module 5 Part I.

10 points Create a visual aide to to represent the issue whose funding you are advocating.

10 points After the presentation, provide a handout for retention by class members present, and distribute this handout electronically to distant learners taking this class.

5. The team leader(s) establish procedure for recommending a specific percentage of points to each team member; use the five criteria in #1 above.  Give your recommendation to the instructor during Module 5 Part I.

Two person distant learning teams should have one person prepare the briefing and the second person prepare the PowerPoint Outline.  Submit the presentation electronically to the instructor during Module 5 Part 1.

Three person distant learner teams should have:
one person prepare the written briefing;
a second person prepare the PowerPoint Outline; and
a third person record the presentation narrative in voice technology.
The presentation must play successfully on the instructor's computer.  Submit the presentation electronically to the instructor during Module 5 Part 1.
