Service LearningService Learning Project JUNTOS ProgramRCTC Student GuidelinesRCTC students will interview in English or Spanish a JUNTOS student that will be assigned by the JUNTOS program coordinators. The instructor will provide the interview questionnaire; RCTC student can include additional questions. This interview takes about 15 minutes.It is required that RCTC students participate in a 2 hour tutoring session. Sometimes the tutoring session will include enrichment time where the students engage in activities like playing chess and checkers, soccer, painting and community service projects. 1- Arrive on time 10:00 am 2- If there are any last minute changes look for sign that will be posted on the classroom door. 3- Contact one coordinator for assignment of the student and task (Pilar Duque/Miriam Goodson) 4- JUNTOS students have a folder, if she or he does not please contact the coordinator to get the folder. The student is responsible to retrieve their folder from the JUNTOS bin. 5- The student folder should have worksheets and assigned work that need to be completed. If they don’t have any work please ask one of the coordinators for assistance. 6- Some students bring homework to finish during the tutoring session that is OK. 7- Most students that attend these tutoring session are struggling and need to be motivated. Be creative, resourceful and patient! Some students are shy. 8- If the student is uncooperative please contact the coordinator. 9- Have high expectation of the students and encourage them to do the work even if they are telling you it is difficult. You can tell them that if they don’t do things that are difficult they will never do their best! 10- For RCTC Spanish student, if the student assigned does not speak or understand Spanish please ask to be reassigned. 11- If other activities take place, please be sure to cooperate with these activities. Sometimes there are enrichment activities during the tutoring session like chess, contests and games, etc. 12- Don’t deal with disciplinary issues, if you are having problems notify the coordinators immediately. 13- There is a 15-minute break and students and tutors get a light snack. 14- Be sure to approach one of the coordinators to fill out your evaluation form at the end of the tutoring session, without this form you will not be graded. 15- If you enjoyed your experience, please let the coordinators know, they will happy to have extra help if you would like to come back on your own time. 16- Please remember that you are representing RCTC, use appropriate language and dress. |
