Scholarships
Throughout
the year, the Organization, in partnership with several
community businesses and organizations, hosts events
in effort to raise funds that would directly benefit
returning students of the Rochester Community and Technical
College. The amount and number of scholarships awarded
each spring are dependent on the success of the year’s
fundraising efforts.
Criteria
for the Scholarship:
Current
RCTC Asian Student in the ASO
Carrying a minimum 9 credits
Minimum GPA of 2.5
ASO
Youth Mentorship Program
This
year’s Youth Mentorship Program at John Marshal
High School is reaching nearly thirty students and the
emerging group solidarity is an empowering aspect of
the program that we had not expected.
The students are getting to know one another and learning
to work as a team. At the same time, they are involved
in apprenticeship opportunities, fundraising activities
and academic pursuits.
Many
area businesses have agreed to bring our students on
as apprentices and teach them about their work. We would
like to thank Dick’s High Tech Auto Repair, Daube’s
Bakery, L&M Perfect Image Beauty Salon, The Post
Bulletin and the Third Avenue Pet Hospital for engaging
our students and offering them unique job experiences.
The
students are also experiencing a different side of academics.
For those who are not bound for college, we are working
on resume building, maneuvering high school and looking
at the possibilities after graduation. Graduation is
an important feature for these students.
For the college bound in our group we attended the job
fair, discussed scholarship opportunities and youth
development programs and are working on building academic
achievement.
