Interlibrary
Loan Service
ILL service is limited to the staff &
students of RCTC, WSURC, UMRC, and SMU Rochester Center.
The library staff no longer notifies patrons when their interlibrary
loan materials arrive. Patrons may track the status
of requests themselves by checking their patron record. Items which
have arrived can then be picked up at the circulation desk in Goddard Library.
Please call the library at (507) 285-7233 if you have any questions or
are unable to access your patron record.
Interlibrary Loan Policy
for Goddard Library

We will not request any item which is currently available at Goddard
Library, rather patrons must make arrangements to use our copy. If
the item is checked out from Goddard Library but is available at another
library, we will request the item from another library.

Interlibrary Loan service is limited to the staff & students of RCTC,
WSURC, UMRC, and SMU Rochester Center.

The loan period for materials is established by the lending library. In
most cases the loan period for books will be 28 days. Some items
can be renewed; however, that decision is made by the lending library.

Many libraries will not lend nonprint materials such as videotapes, sound
recordings, etc. Please contact Jon concerning the availablitiy of this
type of material.

Requests for paper formats of items which Goddard Library owns in a microform
format will not be honored.

Only requests received via PALS, MINITEX, or OCLC will be honored.
Faxed copies of these forms can be sent to 507-281-7772.

FAXING of Interlibrary Loan Requests is done at the discretion of the Interlibrary
Loan Department.

Replacement costs for Interlibrary Loan are the same as the current circulation
policy for lost items at Goddard Library.

Interlibrary Loan requests received for on-line full text articles will
not be honored unless the patron needs illustrations (charts, statistics,
etc.) not included on-line; a hard copy of the article will be ordered.
This will be done at the Department's discretion. When transmitting a request
for a full-text hard copy we must comply with the copyright regulations.

Faculty members' ILL requests will be sent directly to faculty members
via campus mail.

Submitting an Interlibrary
Loan Request
Use these steps to determine the location of the item you need.

Request Form for a Book
or Video
Authorized users may use this form to borrow a book, video...
not held by a PALS library.
(whether or not you are authorized is determined by the barcode number
you enter.)
Required Information:

Barcode: The 14 digit number on the back of our library card.

Password: Your Last Name unless you changed it.

Date Needed By We will keep trying to fill this request until this
date, so please give us the last day upon which this item will still be
useful to you. Remember an ILL can take a week or more, do you have time
to wait?
Additional Information:

Standard ID Type: For a Book or Video this is usually an ISBN number,
which is a 10 digit number which is a unique identifier, i.e. 0-00000-000-0.

Found Where: This field is optional, but if you have this information
it can be very useful in helping us fill your request. Fill it in with
the source of this citation or where you learned about this item, i.e.
CINAHL or page 240 in Nursing Techniques by J.A. Doe.

How to Create Interlibrary
Loan Requests on WebPALS

To request an ILL for books and periodical articles found on WebPALS,
but not owned by Goddard Library or the branch library, return to
WebPALS
-
Display the record for the desired book or article in WebPALS.
-
Move to the bottom of the record.
-
Click on the
button at the bottom of the screen.
-
Fill in form with your library card number (all 14 digits) and password
(unless you changed it, your password is your last name).
-
You will not see the
button
if:
-
the materials are owned by Goddard Library.
-
the item you are requesting is part of a multi-volume set
(contact the ILL department at Goddard Library to submit these requests).
-
the full text of a journal article is available on-line.

How to Create Interlibrary
Loan Requests for Items Not Found on WebPALS

To request an item not found on WebPALS fill out a book
or periodical request form.

Fill in the Barcode field with the 14 digit number on your library
card.

Fill in the Password field, it will be your last name unless you
changed it.

The Date Needed By is a required field, remember an ILL can take
a week or more, do you have time to wait?

Codes:

Request was cancelled by patron or interlibrary loan department
because it was a duplicate request or full text was available. for pickup. |
| CHARGD: |
Item is currently checked out to you. |
| CLEARD: |
Item was returned or fines were paid. This record will
be removed overnight. |
| FILLED: |
Request has arrived, please check at Goddard Library circulation
desk. |
| FINED: |
Patron owes fines for late return of materials. |
| HERE: |
The item you requested is here and should be picked up
at the Goddard Library circulation desk. |
| HOLD: |
Patron has placed a hold on an item that is currently charged
to another patron. |
| OVERDU: |
Item is charged to patron and is overdue but not yet fined. |
| PATILL: |
ILL request has been entered by patron but has not been
processed yet. |
| PENDNG: |
ILL request has been processed by the ILL staff but has
not yet been received. |
| PICKUP: |
Item in the Goddard Library collection is on hold and available
for pickup. |
| UNFLLD: |
ILL request cannot be processed or ILL request could
not be filled through normal channels, contact the ILL technician or call
507/285-7233. |

Renewing Interlibrary
Loan Requests
Some Interlibrary Loans may be renewed, in each case the lending library
will make this decision.
It is your responsibility to ensure that a renewal request is properly
submitted. It is also your responsibility to follow up on the renewal process
and determine if it was successful, which can be done by tracking
your loan status via the Goddard Library Interlibrary Loan Page. If
you have questions, ask for clarification at the library or call (507)
285-7233. You may initiate your request for the renewal of an Interlibrary
Loan by:

Stopping in the library to make your request

Calling the library at (507) 285-7233 to make your request

Loan Requests
Use the following form to cancel interlibrary loan requests.
