REMOTE ACCESS TO GODDARD LIBRARY’S ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
To access Goddard Library’s electronic resources from outside the campus network (remote access), you must:
- be a currently enrolled UCR student, or a current UCR faculty/staff member
- have a valid UCR library/student ID card
- have an Internet Service Provider (ISP)
- configure your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox)
Goddard Library allows remote access to a variety of electronic resources using a proxy server. The UCR proxy server enables you to access our electronic resources by authenticating that you are a valid UCR member.
Note:Winona State University Rochester's students who wish to use the Krueger library electronic resources will need to use their Proxy Server Card.
If you used the UCR proxy server before January 3, 2005, you must remove it from your web browser before you can use the new proxy server. Go to the section Removing the Previous UCR Proxy Server at the end of this document.
Starting the UCR Proxy Server
- Start your web browser and select the electronic resource that you wish to use from the library's website.
- If the following window appears. Click “OK.”
- At this window, click “Yes.”

- This is the proxy server logon form. Here you “authenticate” yourself as a current UCR student/faculty/staff.
Barcode field: type in the barcode on the back of your student ID card.
Password: Your last name.If using AOL or having problems, click the “Using a proxy” box.
Click “Log In.”
- When this message appears, click “Yes.”
- You should now be in your selected electronic resource.
Exiting the UCR Proxy Server
- Log-off or exit the article database.
- Exit or restart your web browser.
Removing the Previous UCR Proxy Server
If you used the UCR proxy server prior to January 3, 2005, you must remove the settings from your browser before you can use the new UCR proxy server.
- Start your web browser.
- Select Tools
- Click on Internet Options.
- Select the Connections tab.
- If you are using a dial-up telephone line connection (e.g. MSN, NetZero):
- Click on your internet service provider, e.g. in the Dial-up settings box and then click on Settings
OR, if you are using a digital high speed line connection (e.g. Charter Pipeline):
- Click on LAN Settings
- Remove the check next to Use Automatic Configuration script.
- Click on OK
- Click OK on the Internet Options screen.
- Exit or restart your web browser.
You can now follow the instructions to log-in to the new UCR proxy server.
