How to Publish to the Web

Faculty can publish to their web sites via FTP (File Transfer Protocol). FTP is a common Internet method of transferring files between host computers. Every UCR faculty member has a "home" directory on a server called webhotel.roch.edu. To publish to the Academic Web Site, faculty simply FTP files to separate directories within their "home" space on webhotel.roch.edu, with each separate directory representing a unique web site.

To publish, you can log into WebHotel using a standard FTP client program. But a more likely scenario would be that you would set up a common Internet publishing tool to automatically publish to your sites. Common publishing applications that can use FTP to publish are Netscape Composer, DreamWeaver, NetObjects Fusion and Hot Dog, among many others.

The following examples detail how to publish to your web directories. Adobe Contribute and DreamWeaver are the supported authoring tool available for web authoring here on campus.
