Student Internet Access
Currently University Center Rochester does not have student internet access, but there are "FREE" options still available.
Following is a list of the remaining free Internet Service Providers.
When you sign up, you normally get 56k access and an e-mail account with that provider as well, which you may or may not opt to use. Note that some services may only work for Windows. Be sure to find out the "system requirements" of the provider before committing to one. NOTE: often these providers pay for their free service with an over abundance of advertising an pop-ups, some of which may appear on your screen constantly. Also, be sure to read the details for any hidden charges.
Minimum requirement for Internet access (Free or otherwise):
- Computer - Macintosh or PC
- Modem - this is what computers use to "dial up" to the web, convert data, and transfer the data over telephone lines.
- Telephone Line - plugs into the modem for transfer of data
- Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari Web browsers - used for viewing content on the Internet - most computers come with one or the other or both. Some of the free ISPs require the newer versions of Firefox or Internet Explorer.
