How to use a scanner

There are scanners located in the DMC, LTC and in offices and faculty areas around campus.

They are able to scan pictures into image files; they can also scan text into word documents.

To use the scanners, first login to the computer under your user ID:

(This will give you access to your network volume to save your work)

To scan text:

Click START

Choose PROGRAMS

Choose CAERE

Choose OMNI PAGE PRO

Click on the Auto icon

Follow the onscreen instructions depending on what kind of scanning you are going to do.

To scan images:

Click START

Choose Programs

Choose MS Photo Editor

Click on File

Scan image.

   Choose the attached scanner

Choose the settings that you want to scan at (these options will vary depending on the scanner that is installed.)

If you are satisfied with the image, choose File, Save as.

The screen that opens will allow you to choose how to save the file. Jpg and gif are compressed formats, which means the images take up less space on the disk. Tif and bmp are uncompressed.  This means you get the best image quality but uses more disk space.

You can now save the file either to a floppy disk or to your network drive.

(Remember floppy disks only hold 1.44MB)

When finished, be sure to log out of the system.

Click START

Choose Shutdown

Choose Restart the Computer and click ok.
