Options available for desktop computer support
Option 1) Technology Support Center (TSC)
supports the desktop computer.
- TSC will load the campus image on the computer
- Employee will have network access to:
- File space (backed up)
- Outlook e-mail client access
- Automatic updates for application software including
virus protection
- Access to concurrently licensed software
- Access to network printers
- TSC can assist user using remote control access
- New software will be loaded by TSC staff and tested to
ensure it does not conflict with other software applications
- Employees will test new software for application features
and configuration options
- Full hardware support - may involve temporary replacement
of computer to facilitate repair
- Software evaluation starts with TSC software environment
evaluation and then proceeds to employee feature evaluation
on their desktop computer.
Option 2)
Employee supports their own desktop computer.
- Computer is issued IP address
- Employee has access to the Internet and IP printing
- E-mail is accessed through a web browser
- Employee is responsible for maintaining software licensing
information sufficient to meet audit standards
- All software installation and support is done by the employee
- Concurrently licensed software is not available
- Employee is responsible for contacting warranty and maintenance
vendors for hardware support
- TSC staff will not be available for technical
support
Option 3)
Software testing done on evaluation computers.
- The employee's desktop computer is supported under option
one.
- Software features can be tested on a standalone computer
located in SH student help desk area.
- Standalone PC will have MS Office and Internet Explorer
and be connected to the Internet.
- The standalone PC will be re-imaged back to this configuration
after each evaluation is completed.
- Simultaneous with or following software feature evaluation
the employee should submit their request to TSC for a software
environment evaluation. TSC staff will ensure that the application
functions within the standard desktop environment and then
push it to the employee's profile and/or student computer
labs after appropriate licenses have been purchased.
