S.P.A.M.'s Goals:

  • To enhance the professional growth of individuals and groups of faculty in teaching, in understanding students’ educational needs, and in enhancing academic and professional expertise. By sharing teaching and evaluation ideas, all parties benefit. There have been many changes in Speech Communication education nationally. S.P.A.M. membership   enables us to explore new ideas and ways to incorporate them in the classroom.
  • To integrate faculty development with the goals and priorities of each college or university as well as with the goals and priorities of the Minnesota State College and University System. SPAM seeks to provide an arena to allow speech educators to articulate the expectations for speech courses across the MnSCU system.
  • To integrate all faculty development activities so that the results support and enhance other campus and system efforts to improve teaching, learning and student support. Without detracting from academic freedom, SPAM tries to define the institutional goals and missions of each MnSCU entity and come to a consensus as to skills and knowledge needed for students’ successful progression to employment.

SPAM's System Goals:

Skill-Based Transfer

Program and Service Alignment

Since speech has such common courses, they are consistently transferred between institutions. SPAM's annual conferences allow us to articulate skills and outcomes for commonly named courses as well as discuss graduation standards for majors.
