Your
Journey Begins With
Phi Theta Kappa
|
Phi Theta
Kappa has recognized academic excellence in the two-year college
since 1918 and has become the largest and one of the most prestigious
honor societies in higher education. More than 1.2 million members
have been inducted at 1,200 colleges in the United States, Canada,
U.S. territorial possessions and military installations abroad.
Phi Theta
Kappa membership is based primarily upon academic achievement.
Invitation to membership may be extended only by the local chapter
at the institution in which you are enrolled. To be eligible,
you must be enrolled in a regionally accredited institution offering
an associate degree program; you must have completed at least
12 hours of coursework leading to an an associate degree program
(part-time students may be eligible); you must generally have
a grade point average of 3.5 and enjoy full rights of citizenship
of your country. The chapter may raise eligibility standards as
long as they are in accordance with the Society's International
Constitution.
New
Doors Will Open When You Accept Membership in
Phi Theta Kappa |
Membership
in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will open new doors for your
academic journey. Phi Theta Kappa, unlike most honor societies,
offers much more than a mere certificate of membership. The organization
offers a myriad of opportunities for scholarships, intellectual
enrichment and personal development through programs based on
Phi Theta Kappa's four hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service
and Fellowship.
As you
begin your journey with Phi Theta Kappa, you will discover that
membership provides many opportunities to make your quest for
academic success more meaningful. The privilege of lifetime membership
is yours, based solely on your outstanding academic record. While
participation in chapter activities is not a requirement
for membership, you will certainly want to consider the many opportunities
membership affords.
Through
the local chapter, you will become part of a strong network of
scholars who, like yourself, are committed to the pursuit of excellence.
You will discover new opportunities for learning and expanding
your horizons through Phi Theta Kappa's Honors Study Topic. Serving
as a chapter officer can refine your leadership skills. And, through
the Society's International Service Program, you can help your
college and community, and grow and develop within yourself.
As a member
of Phi Theta Kappa, you become part of a league of scholars that
includes the most outstanding honor students enrolled in two-year
colleges today... as well as many distinguished Society alumni,
including businessman H. Ross Perot, former U.N. Ambassador Jeane
Kirkpatrick, Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise, Grammy-winning entertainer
Rudy Gatlin and Emmy Award-winning actress Sela Ward.
