HIST 1615 War and Peace in the 20th Century

The course will begin with the diplomatic background of World War I and then investigate the peace efforts that ended it. The developments that led to World War II, the failure of peace after that war that led to the Cold War and the conflicts associated with it, such as Korea and the Vietnam War will follow. The break up of the Soviet Union and the conflicts that emerged out of it and a discussion of the Gulf War will end the course. Emphasis will be placed on the interests of all parties in the various struggles to show why they chose war or peace in their interactions.
