Courses in Desire 2 Learn:

Getting Started in D2L: Uploading the Basics - An introduction to the Desire 2 Learn environment. Come learn what this software can do for online education as well as enhancing your face to face class. We will present the basic tools offered within this web software to allow you to create course materials for your class on the web. If you bring your syllabus to class, you can have it uploaded before you leave!

Placing Content and Course Materials in D2L - Learn how to upload everything from your syllabus to your powerpoint lectures into Desire 2 Learn for your students to access. We'll discuss developing a calendar and creating news items. Your content can be created with restrictions for completing one area before progressing to the next - or you can simply upload course materials.

Using the Dropbox Tool - This course will show you how to have your students electronically submit assignments to you allowing you to given them feedback at the touch of a button that they can access through D2L. These assignments can be directly attached to your gradebook allowing you instant grade postings as well.

How to Import Calendar Items using Excel into D2L - Tired of that SLOW calendar tool? Speed up the process by creating your calendar outside of D2L and importing into your courses. Great tool for retaining a calendar that bears repeating each semester with slight alterations. Could save tons of time!

Using the Gradebook in D2L
Using the gradebook with the Desire 2 Learn System is very straightforward. This tool will calculate your grades by figuring a straight percentage based on total number of points assigned, or figuring your final grades based on the weight you assign to each category - thus allowing you to give more importance to certain grade items than others. Students can view their grades online at any time wherever they have access to the web!

Using the Discussion and Chat Tools in D2L
This course shows you how the discussion and chat tools work within the Desire2Learn environment. The discussion board allows you to set up discussion topics and questions for students to discuss on their time frame. A Chat is a "live" interactive conversation scheduled at a specific time which you can invite your students to.

Using Conditional Release in D2L
Conditional release refers to controlling when content is released. You can set content to be accessible only under certain conditions or prerequisites. This tool can be set within a number of areas in D2L and can affect most of D2L tools. For example: You can make the quiz on chapter 1 not available until a student reads the first 3 articles in the content area. Once the quiz is taken, the articles for chapter 2 will appear.

Creating quizzes in the D2L Environment
Quizzes are easy to create with in D2L. Set up multiple choice quizzes and this program will automatically grade them and export them to student's gradebook. Quiz questions can also be T/F, short answer, fill in the blank, and paragraph. You are able to grade automatically, or manually and add hints and comments. We will introduce Respondus Software which makes creating quizzes even easier!
