The Coffeyville Ravens defeated the Rochester Yellowjackets yesterday in the inaugural Dalton Defenders Bowl (55 to 7).
Coffeyville's star running back, Brandon Jacobs, 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, rushed for 259 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries -- doing that despite getting only two carries after halftime.
According to a local Kansas newspaper, Rochester moved the ball well in the first half. Yellowjackets quarterback Brenden Huewe was 11 for 18 for 162 yards in the first half, getting the ball inside Coffeyville's 40-yard line on four occasions. Each drive, however, failed to produce points (ending in a missed field goal, two fumbles and a failed fourth-down conversion.)
"It's not like we didn't have opportunities in the first half," Rochester coach Tom Hosier was quoted as saying. "We just didn't get any points on the board."
While Hosier commended the Coffeyville lines for controlling the line of scrimmage, he gave a lot of praise to Jacobs. "I've been at Rochester for two years, and he's the best I've seen since I've been here," Hosier said. "Obviously we knew he was a great back coming in, with what we saw on videotape. But he was far better in person."
Although the Yellowjackets were unable to bring the Dalton Bowl Trophy home
to Rochester, we are still very proud of their successful season - and wish
them the best.
