Nursing
2209/Pediatric Nursing is a 3-credit course which includes both theory
and clinical over an eight week period.
The theory component is a 3-hour class every Tuesday from 8:30-11:30
am. The clinical component is offered on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday
from 2-8 pm. In addition, the first two Fridays of each eight week rotation
are scheduled for a nursing skills lab experience and a growth and development
module. This course is taken concurrently with Nursing
2218/Advanced Concepts in Nursing. During
the course of your eight-week clinical experience you will be taking
care of children and families in a variety of settings. Your primary experience will be in an acute care hospital setting
in Rochester, Minnesota. You
will care for children from one week to eighteen years of age. In
addition, you will be offered experiences at an ill child center for
employees, a pediatric outpatient clinic for well and ill children,
a day nursery caring for toddlers and preschoolers and an outpatient
clinic for children requiring intravenous antibiotics, chemotherapy,
blood products, immunoglobulins and long term catheter site care and
maintenance. A
variety of assignments will be correlated with these experiences; including
presentations, care plans, and
examinations. The nursing care
is family centered and I think you will find it both rewarding and challenging.
